Letter From The Editor
Introducing Libby Smiley - your new Editor In Chief.
In 1995, Barbary Coast Consulting founder Alex Clemens had the idea that a centralized place for San Francisco political news would well serve the political junkies who populate our town. Since Suspects predated the web being generally available, he ran off the first edition as a blast fax, which soon evolved into an email-based communication, and shortly thereafter it landed on the Internet.
Alex eventually surrounded himself with colleagues who were also smart and capable and on whom he could rely to assist in the oft-onerous task of digesting and collecting all of the news of the day for Suspects readers. And after a few years, he realized that they may even be capable of steering the ship. In some of 2006 and in 2007, Jaime Salinas served as Editor in Chief of Suspects and Burnell Holland ran Suspects on a daily basis for all of 2008. In 2009, the job fell on me, Alexis Smith, and today, I’m pleased to announce your new Editor In Chief: Libby Smiley.
Libby Smiley is snarky and a master of detail. She aims to achieve greatness in everything she undertakes and I doubt that anyone has ever seen her fail in her efforts. She’ll shortly be making her mark on our little site and we’re certain that you’ll like us even better for putting her in charge.
Though Libby is taking the helm, we’re not going to change the fundamentals of what we do - we’re still going to gather the news about San Francisco politics and provide it bright and early, every day. We’ll continue to aim to be clever but not mean-spirited, and we’re going to try to keep Suspects a fun, fast-paced, comprehensive, and easy-to-navigate place to start your political day.
As always, thanks for reading Suspects. We appreciate you stopping by.
- Alexis Smith, former Editor in Chief
